Dare2eraD TB initiative launched: A data-driven research named Dare2eraD TB has been launched by the Department of Biotechnology, Ministry of Science and Technology to eradicate TB. This initiative was launched on 24 March on the occasion of World TB Day.
main point – (Dare2eraD TB initiative launched)
Major initiatives in Dare2eraD TB include:
- Indian Tuberculosis Genomic Surveillance Consortium (InTGS)
- Indian TB Knowledge Hub- Webinar Series (InTBK Hub)
- Host directed treatment against TB.
- Developing an evidence-based diet to treat tuberculosis.
InTGS
InTGS has been proposed on the lines of Indian SARS-CoV-2 Genomic Consortia.
InTBK Hub -(Dare2eraD TB initiative launched)
It will be a webinar series that started on World TB Day. It will create links between industry and academia to discuss various challenges and exchange views. It will also drive innovations among all TB stakeholders.
Whole Genome Sequencing
To fully understand the biological characteristics of Mycobacterium tuberculosis (Mtb) and the effect caused by mutations on treatment, transmission and disease severity, it is necessary to analyze genomic data of the organism as a whole, as is the case with Whole Genome Sequencing. Sequencing – WGS) is steadily gaining traction.
Effective use of WGS technology will allow identification of TB strains of origin as well as drug resistance profile in patients across the country. Doing so will help facilitate treatment strategies for better TB transmission control.
