Summer vacations are the most awaited time in a student’s life. It is a time to relax and explore the world around. This time I have decided to spend my summer vacation with my grandparents. Here is a brief overview of the time I spent at my grandparents’ house during my summer vacation.
Our Experience with Grandparents
Me and my sister have decided to spend this summer vacation with my grandparents. They live in a small village near Kutch district of Gujarat. We did not know anything about this journey as we had never visited any village before nor did we know anything about the lifestyle there. But as the days passed, we got adjusted to the lifestyle there and started enjoying it to the fullest.
Our stay there was full of fun. Our grandmother told us about some naughty, naughty and funny anecdotes of our father. He told us how he used to prank his school teachers and neighbours. He also told us how in childhood, my sister and I used to do mischief and bully like our father.
One day my grandfather took us for a long walk in the Thar Desert, to Kutch, which is known for one of the largest salt deserts in the world. We took a camel ride there and roamed there till sunset. After spending some good time we went to the main market there.
Our grandmother told us about the unique handicrafts of Kutch and how the women there earn their living by selling different types of embroidered clothes. We bought an embroidered kurta for my father and a saree for my mother. After that we went back home and we also helped Dadi in cooking dinner. The next day we went to the farm with my grandfather and he told us about different farming techniques which was a lot of fun. We used to indulge in different types of activities every day.
It was one of our best trips where we had a lot of fun, got to know about the culture and heritage of Kutch and I would like to do more such trips in future.

For people living in metropolitan cities, summer vacations mean watching movies and television or hanging out with friends or using the internet. All these activities take up all their time. But, the summer vacations that I spent at my aunt’s house in Bhiwani village was an interesting world experience for me.
get to know the culture of the village
The village houses were big and palace-like and the people there were emotionally attached to each other and kept all the good and bad news about each other’s life. Eating together, understanding people’s situations and thoughts and working together were some of the small things that contributed to building a beautiful and happy village.
It is a good practice to wake up early in the morning and go for a walk, which keeps the people of the village healthy and good in routine. So, everyone in the house had to wake up at 6 in the morning which was nothing less than a curse for us in the beginning. In the village, my uncle has a utensil shop, which he leaves home every morning before 7 o’clock to open, where we saw most of the people going to work at this time.
I spent my time in the kitchen early in the morning, helping the women there in preparing breakfast and cleaning the house after the kitchen, and in the afternoon, both my brother and I took a round of the village together And then went to my uncle’s shop and gave him his lunch, after that after coming home we talked a lot and had food and then went to sleep.
We used to eagerly wait for the evening time in the village. One evening we went with the village women to the well from where she used to bring drinking water. It was a great experience to see them balancing the pots full of water with confidence and joy on their faces and walking together in a row. The village also had a large playground which was filled with children playing in the evening hours.
One day our aunts and uncles took us for a walk in the fields where they told us about the beautiful process of growing fruits and vegetables and it was time for us to see the glow of their faces as they were harvesting their crops after hard work. It was a different experience.
I also went to the panchayat being held under a banyan tree in the village where the village’s issues were being resolved by the village elders with the consent of the people of the village. This is where I saw a small example of democracy.
Village life is full of simplicity and beauty. My visits to the village have always taught me compassion and selfless love for my family.

The summer season is mainly known for extreme heat and holidays. For students, it is a good time to relieve stress and get closer to nature, for which they do not get time during their busy schedule throughout the year.
We decided to go to a hill station
This year our family has decided to go to a hill station for summer trip. There are many beautiful places in India like Mussoorie, Ooty, Wilson Hills, Kufri, Nainital, Manali, Kerala and Rishikesh etc. Some places which are known for their beautiful names and scenery. Finally after a long discussion of going to the car hill station, we chose to visit Shimla.
Our trip to Shimla
We all got there in the morning via our car. Then, we went straight to the hotel we had already booked to stay. Shimla has everything to entice tourists, from opulent hotels to scenic places and from mall roads to shopping streets filled with people coming from different cultures. We had planned a 5 day trip to Shimla in which in the evening of the first day we all went to the main tourist places of the city, Mall Road and Jhaku Hills where many different activities were going on at that time. The night view of Shimla was amazing. We also went to Futulos Discotheque which was full of loud music and people.
The next day we all traveled from Kalka to Shimla via toy train. There are only 3 such trains in our country and one of them is in Shimla. In spite of the fact that the train is actually slow, traveling through it was an enjoyable experience. Evening time was spent doing some snow adventures like skiing and bungee jumping.
We spent the next day visiting places like Chel, Kufri and Chitkul near Shimla. Apart from enjoying the beautiful scenery of these places, people also go for snow adventure.
Shimla is a good treat for a foodie like me. One of the strange things about Shimla food is that it doesn’t matter whether it offers small diners or cafes, fast food, different types of tea and cold drinks or fancy eateries, all of them have exorbitant prices. Wine is included in the menu. We had delicious salami burgers at Beck’s.
Participating in so many activities during these days we used to get really tired in the evenings, but in the nights, looking at the starry sky and listening to the melodious music coming from the tall trees filled our souls and hearts, and there The winding roads, beautiful hills and gentle winds gave us happiness and new energy.
We came back to Delhi after spending five fun days in Shimla. The memory of this visit is still fresh in my mind. Shimla is indeed the queen of hill stations and I would like to visit this place again in future.

Summer is the most awaited time of any student’s academic year. Despite the scorching sun and extreme heat, this month always brings an extraordinary kind of peace to my soul and it enhances my concentration and removes laziness. These holidays are a great time to explore new things, explore new places, plan and do a lot of things. Summer vacations are always fun but my summer vacations were especially memorable. It was special because those holidays were my first arrival in a foreign land.
my first foreign trip
The year 2017 was my last academic session in school. So, going for a foreign trip with the whole family before going to college was a great opportunity that was gifted to me by my family. Our travel plans were a perfect mix of fairytale Disneyworld and the multi-ethnic country island of glamorous Hong Kong and then Malaysia.
On the second day of summer vacation I was at Terminal 2 of Chhatrapati Shivaji Airport, Mumbai waiting for my flight boarding and posting stories about it on social media. I was surrounded by my parents, siblings and cousins, the excitement was clearly visible on everyone’s face. Being a full extended family vacation with all my cousins, aunts and uncles, everything seemed like so much fun when we got out of the taxi at the airport. It wasn’t my first trip amidst the clouds, but it was my first international flight with everyone giving a great view of the night lights of the entire city and I knew this trip was going to be a one-of-a-kind experience for me.
Landing in Hong Kong, I was taken aback by the sight of my airport, all of which made me think that “first impression is last impression” and this is exemplifying this fact. I was certainly unimaginable and surprised but somewhere I knew this was just the beginning. The first day mainly started exploring the breathtaking streets of this beautiful place and its rich in fashion, food, technology, modern things as well as try to know about their ancient life.
The next place we saw what we’ve all been dreaming of for a long time was the fun Disneyland. The first thing that caught my attention was the people dressed in Disney characters, the wonderful expanses of space and shops, the far-out large castle – Disney Castle. He was so wonderful. Its charm and enchanting view took me by surprise. Fireworks especially after a full parade show can make you wonder, have you ever really entered the world of fantasy? But it was much more than I could have imagined of faith.
Next day was also travel as we were going to our next destination Malaysia. The city gateway was completely opposite from where we had come. There were no sky scrapers in this city but this horizontal city filled with beauty was very rich in culture and diversity. The excellence of mosques, museums and heritage sites perfectly blends with the modern lifestyle and modern layout of the city. The hill top parts of the country such as the Genting Highlands can certainly be called heaven on earth. The beaches here have provided a perfect place to relax and rejuvenate. I am glad that we chose this trip as our final destination.
It was one of the best vacations ever where I got to see so many beautiful things and places. I had a great time with my lovely family. My last summer vacation was indeed one of the best summer vacations ever.
