Charles Townes thought of it differently. In 1917 AD, Einstein had discussed the excitation emission of radiation. Charles decided to execute it himself. Charles eventually came to the conclusion that if one wanted smaller waves than vacuum tubes, one would have  to use ‘readymade’ tiny devices called molecules and atoms.
